Introduction
Bulletproof vests have become more popular as a tool that people can use to protect themselves. with the small wars happening every time and everywhere, crisis awareness seems to be kept in mind. We may be confused about what type of bulletproof vest can stop what type of gun. In this blog, we set AK-47 as a gun example, and together explore the answer to the problem:
What Are Bulletproof Vests and AK-47s?
The Bulletproofboxs’s bulletproof vests, you can image it as a soft vest that can protect your body from bullets or shrapnel in wars. Currently, the status of bulletproof vests is obviously top because people usually see body armor as the key to keeping themselves alive.
AK-47 is also called AK-47 automatic rifle. AK-47 can automatically shoot. If you let the AK-47 compared with the other rifles, the features of the AK-47 obviously protrude. It has a shorter barrel and a shorter range than others. generally saying, the AK-47 is suitable for close-quarters combat. In addition, the AK-47 bullet caliber is 7.62mm and equipped with a 7.62x39mm bullet.
Body Armor Material
The body armor (bulletproof vest) is mainly composed of a clothing cover, a bulletproof layer, a buffer layer, and a bulletproof plate.
Clothing Covers
Clothing covers are generally made of chemical fiber fabrics or wool cotton fabrics, which protect the bulletproof layer and make the appearance beautiful. Some hoods have several pockets for easy carrying of ammunition and other supplies.
Bulletproof Layer
The bulletproof layer is usually made of single or composite materials such as metal, aramid fiber (Kevlar fiber), high-strength high-modulus polyethylene, and polyimide fiber (PI fiber), and is used to pop open or embed Penetrating bullets or explosive fragments.
Buffer Layer
The bulletproof layer is usually made of single or composite materials such as metal, aramid fiber (Kevlar fiber), high-strength high-modulus polyethylene, and polyimide fiber (PI fiber), and is used to pop open or embed Penetrating bullets or explosive fragments.
Bulletproof Plate
The bulletproof plate is an insert that enhances the protection of the bulletproof layer and is mainly used to protect against the penetration of rifle direct bullets and high-speed small fragments.
Can a Bulletproof Vest Stop an AK-47?
Whether body armor can block AK-47 bullets, is no absolute statement. The first thing to look at is the level of protection of the body armor. The second thing to look at is how far away you are hit by an AK-47 bullet. There are five internationally recognized levels of protection for body armor. As you can imagine, if the power of the bullet exceeds the protection level of the body armor, it will of course be penetrated, and naturally it will not be protective. So, what kind of bulletproof vest can block the bullets of AK-47? Soft Kevlar? No, these soft body armors usually only stop 44mag or smaller pistol calibers. If you’re only wearing a soft Kevlar level 3A body armor that only stops pistol bullets, any fast-moving rifle bullets like 556 or 762×39 will go right through the soft vest. The cops in the LA bank robbery found out during the shootout that their soft vests couldn’t stop the bullets from the bad guy’s AK or their modified AR15.
In order to stop AK-47 rifle bullets, you need to have steel or even ceramic armor plates, usually with an armor rating of 3A (level 3A) or above. You need at least a level 4 armor plate to stop the 7.62×39 rd. These plates are made of a rigid material, such as steel or ceramic material, mixed with aramid fibers and bonded with resin. The resulting material is a stiff yet lightweight sheet capable of defeating Class III medium rifle rounds.
