Mills had signed a contract with MCA Records in 1987 and produced the platinum-selling single “If I Were Your Woman,” which was one of many hit songs. Her subsequent album, released in 1989 and titled “Home,” was certified platinum. She remained under contract with MCA until her eventual release in 1992. She tried once more to tour “The Wiz” after MCA, but her attempts were unsuccessful. After that, she released a few more albums and songs, and she sang in a lot of shows and events. Stephanie made her first appearance in the NBC production of “The Wiz” forty years ago when she was cast as Aunt Em in recent events.

Stephanie was married to singer Jeffrey Daniel for two years in the 1980s. In the late 1980s, she got married to Dino Meminger. She wed radio program manager Michael Saunders in 1993, but their marriage only lasted two years.
