1. Summit Waves Water Park
Open from late May to mid-August, Summit waves are the perfect place to take the family on a summer day. Relax on the lazy beach or let the kids play in the various pools and slides. 2. Longview Lake
For more summer water fun, visit Longview Lake. 930 acres of water recreation and 14 shelters provide a wonderful place to gather with friends and family. The 1-acre beach offers plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun and relax or pick up your helmet and paddle or jet ski. 3. BB Theaters Lees Summit
Turn up the heat this summer at the BB Theater. Founded in the 1980s by two families (Bills and Begbie), the film’s history actually began in 1924 when Elmer Bills, Sr. founded Bills Theatre, which operated a silent theater in Salisbury, MO. A decade or two later, Sterling Bagby, a former contract writer, started the Bagby Traveling Picture Show on the traveling movie circuit. Fast forward to 1980 when the two families decided to join forces and transform the two family businesses into bb Theaters Lees Summit. 4. Downtown Days
Kick off summer with Lee’s Summit Downtown Days! Held annually in early June, Downtown Days is a must-attend Southeast Kansas City event. Enjoy this family-friendly (free!) event that has been held annually for three decades in the heart of downtown Lee’s Summit. Stop by for live music and entertainment, event food, rides, crafts, merchandise, and more. With new sightseeing and entertainment options every year, you definitely don’t want to miss out! 5. Oktoberfest
Save Summer Fun at the Summit Check out another great event at Oktoberfest! Held in mid to late September (technically after summer, but a great way to welcome fall!), the Oktoberfest Summit is a fundraiser to support Lee’s business works. Have fun and see everything you know and love about Oktoberfest, from traditional German arts and crafts to all-you-can-eat kids. And of course, there is a Biergarten and even a Rootbiergarten!
